CWL Champs 2019 Day 1 Pool Play Results

CWL Champs 2019 Day 1 Pool Play Results

This weekend the top Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 teams from around the world are competing for $2 million, a set of Championship rings, and the notoriety that comes from winning the most important Call of Duty event of the year.

After an entire season of pro play to determine the top 32 teams, they have finally converged to compete at CWL Champs 2019 to decide who is the best.

The first two days of the event, Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15, are dedicated to pool play where the top two teams from each group will move on to the double elimination bracket. There are eight groups with four teams each, with each team playing each other once.

With this being the last Call of Duty World League event before Call of Duty moves into franchising for the 2020 season, this event will mark an end of an era for CoD esports.

Day one kicked off with G FUEL-sponsored Elevate facing off against the newly signed Celtic FC Esports, formally known as “The Bhoys.” Unfortunately for Elevate, they were only able to grab one map as they lost 1-3.

Later in the day, Elevate was able to regain their composure by grabbing a 3-1 victory over RBL Esports and ultimately wiping the amateur org from the tournament.

The second match of the day resulted in a surprising loss from Gen.G who previously appeared in back-to-back Grand Finals at CWL Anaheim and CWL Finals in Miami. Fuego Gaming was able to knock Gen.G back a peg by delivering them a 3-2 loss.

Unfortunately, it seems like Gen.G’s loss to Fuego Gaming put their morals in the dumps as they went on to lose against Team WaR. With Gen.G’s 0-2 pool play record, it would not be enough for them to move on as they were sent packing.

Following matches were as expected until Luminosity Gaming went to play against Singularity Esports, a team that barely squeaked their way into the event. The amateur org was able to confidently sweep Luminosity with a clean 3-0 victory.

Team Heretics, another new organization to enter the Call of Duty scene in 2019, kicked off their Championship run with a solid 3-0 sweep over Hybrid Gaming. The Spanish organization will continue their pool play run by facing off against Splyce on day two.

FaZe Clan put on a show on day one by going a combined 6-2 against Animosity Gaming and Mazer Gaming, respectively. Due to FaZe Clan’s dominant performance, they secured themselves a spot in bracket-play which begins on Friday, August 16.
