Fortnite Winter Royale 2019 Day 1 Standings

The second most lucrative Fortnite tournament of all time, Fortnite Winter Royale, kicked off earlier today, starting with the Oceanic region. The $23 million three-day event is played across regions all over the world and is accessible to everyone worldwide. The once $15 million event was increased due to the sheer amount of players expected to compete over the course of the three days. Epic Games also increased the number of players receiving money just in time for the holiday season.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this year’s Winter Royale is that each day will feature a brand new scoring format. We can assume Epic Games is ultimately using Winter Royale as a test to see which format they will use for the upcoming Fortnite World Cup 2020 should there be one. The format for day one of the event is 15 points for a victory royale and one point for each elimination you get per match. This is perhaps the most interesting format as there are no other placement points granted. We’ll be providing coverage all weekend long with standings for all regions across the world and full in-depth breakdowns of the action from Europe and North America East. So what went down on the first day of action? Let’s find out!

Europe

The first notable region to compete was the European wave that began at 11:00 ET this past Friday morning. Since this was at a convenient time for the majority of North American East players, this region was filled with notable names that ended up finishing at the top of the leaderboard. Europe is also the region with the largest prize pool distribution. This is due to the sheer number of players active in this region, so Epic Games has given them the most money for Winter Royale 2019.

The day was primarily dominated by some household names to competitive Fortnite fans. mitr0 and crr were once teammates in the FNCS Season Finals, and they dominated throughout the day. Since today’s focus was securing as many eliminations as possible along with picking up some victory royales along the way, it comes as no surprise that the teams sitting atop the leaderboards had multiple wins and were being hyper-aggressive throughout the round.

Although other regions were allowed to compete in other regions, the top of the leaderboard for Europe was as you expected, dominated by Europeans. Many North American players, such as Liquid Chap and Liquid Vivid, placed fairly well, securing a top 30 finish. However, for many players, the ping to the European servers was too high and they were unable to get a lot of points. Although the bulk of notable players were playing on the PC version of the Winter Royale, we will also post the Xbox and Mobile standings for the European region.

North America East

Arguably the most competitive region in the world was next up on the Winter Royale 2019 schedule. Home to Fortnite World Cup winner Bugha and his new duo, Liquid Stretched, this is without a doubt one of the best regions to watch. A lot of eyes were on the new duos that formed in this region and on players from G FUEL-sponsored FaZe Clan, such as Dubs and Megga. One of the best duo pairings in the world was looking to once again stand out amongst the rest of the region much as they did during the Fortnite World Cup qualification rounds.

While North America East is respected as an ultra-competitive region, no-one knew for sure who would come out on top during this round of Winter Royale.
