Everything You Need To Know About Gears 5 Multiplayer

The long-awaited Gears 5 is finally out worldwide. The series has become one of Microsoft's staple series alongside Halo, and it's loved across the world. The game has already been out for multiple days for fans who were granted early access via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or by any other means.

Although Gears of War multiplayer mode may have taken a back seat during the last installment due to the success of the story mode and fan-favorite Horde mode, there seems to be excitement around all the game modes. Gears of War has always been one of the most unique games, from its robust combat style to its third-person style. It’s one of the harder shooters to master and has a hardcore dedicated fan base that’s very vocal.

Whether you’re playing Gears of War for the first time, or if you’re a lifelong fan of the series, here's all the details of Gears 5 multiplayer, from game modes to weapons and more:

Game Modes

Before we get into the more traditional game modes that Gears 5 will be offering, back at E3 2019 they showcased a new game mode that players can try their hand at. Titled “Escape,” the mode will feature two players pitting themselves against enemy spawns all while trying to flee the area. This new mode is essentially a PVE mode that players can test if they’re not up for the classical multiplayer.

Moving on from the new mode introduced in Gears 5, we have the usual suspects here yet again. Here are all of the game modes along with their explanations:

  • Arms Race - Two teams of five-a-side compete to get three kills with each of the 13 different weapons.
  • Dodgeball -  Two teams of five battle it out. Once eliminated, the only way to get back into the match is to score a kill and survive for five seconds.
  • Escalation - This is a traditional domination mode where two teams battle over three points of capture.
  • Team Deathmatch - Two teams battle it out to see what team can get to the elimination target first.
  • King of The Hill - Players battle it out to hold one point on the map longer than anyone else can.
  • Guardian - This mode is similar to Team Deathmatch but with a twist! You will need to eliminate the opposing team's captain before anyone else to win a round.
  • Warzone - Teams of up to four (five in later games) a side compete to eliminate all of the other team's members by killing them. Each player spawns with only one life per round.
  • Execution -  Execution is similar to Warzone, but is different in the sense that a downed player will revive at the end of the bleed-out time instead of dying.

With a multiplayer mode for everyone, no one should be bored when playing Gears 5 multiplayer.

Gears 5 also introduces a new competitive mode that will cater to the fans who are not as hardcore as some of the other multiplayer players. This new Arcade Mode features a character selection screen where each character has its own abilities and traits that offer different playstyles.

You can also earn different skill points for kills and assists throughout the matches. This new mode has received a lot of fan love so far. It seems like Gears 5 is trying to bridge the gap between competitive and casual players so that everyone can enjoy multiplayer.
